Hydrotherapy involves gentle exercise in a heated pool of approximately 34 degrees.
Using the benefits of a weightless environment and buoyancy, hydrotherapy is generally easier on the joints and cardiovascular system than weightbearing exercise and therefore can be an excellent option for osteoarthritis and osteoporosis sufferers. The warm water can also assist with pain relief so for this reason low back pain sufferers will often get good relief. General fitness training can be achieved in the water also, under the guidance of a Physiotherapist.
Participants do not need to know how to swim, and it is not necessary to put the head under water, or even get the hair wet.
