Manual therapy is a physical treatment used by the physiotherapists to treat musculoskeletal and neuromusculoskeletal conditions — spinal and peripheral joints — and is an evidence-based and clinical-based approach utilising alarge variety of skilled, specific, hands-on techniques.
The therapy is delivered with the hands as opposed to a device or machine.
Once a thorough subjective and objective assessment is performed, the physiotherapist will then choose the best techniques or advice needed for the individual patient.
Manual therapy may then be used to diagnose and treat soft tissues and joint structures for the purpose of reducing pain; increasing range of motion; reducing or eliminating soft tissue inflammation; inducing relaxation; improving contractile and non-contractile tissue repair, extensibility and /or stability; facilitating movement; and improving function.
Mobilisations to the joints are performed but we do not do manipulations.
Traction therapy is classified as a manual therapy, but can be delivered either using equipment designed to accurately apply a stretching treatment to the spine, or by the therapist's hands.
We have several seating / laying down options for your comfort when receiving treatment.
