Chest Physiotherapy

chest-physio-300"Chest physio" is a technique used to mobilise or loosen secretion in the lungs and respiratory tract.

This is especially helpful for patients with a large amount of secretions, or ineffective cough.

Chest physiotherapy consists of external manual therapy techniques, and coughing techniques.

Respiratory exercises are also given, as well as home chest drainage routines.

The aim for chest physiotherapy is to improve respiratory efficiency, and to get more oxygen into the body.

Chest physio is beneficial for patients with such conditions as pneumonia, bronchiectasis, cystic fibrosis, emphysema, asthma and neurological conditions that affect breathing.

Overuse Injuries

If an area of the body is repetitively moved or held in sustained positions for any length of time, overuse problems such as pain, weakness, and then the inability to function as usual can occur.

Some examples are tennis elbow, thumb tendinitis, and neck strain.

By doing a thorough assessment and appropriate treatment, these injuries can be settled and re-ocurrance minimised .

Vertigo

Vertigo is a type of dizziness described as a spinning sensation bought on by sudden changes in body movements.

The most common form is BPPV — benign postural paroxysmal vertigo.

There are specific exercises that the physiotherapists can perform and then train you to perform at home settle the vertigo and to give you strategies to use if occurrances do occur.

Sometimes, a feeling of dizziness can be due to neck problems which requires accurate assessment and treatment techniques.

Postural Awareness

In all age brackets, from the teenagers to the very elderly, it is very important to maintain optimum posture for our bodies at work and at play.

Muscle imbalances and then pain can arise from poor posture and then our bodies do not function as well as can be. A postural assessment is important to identify our areas of need and the physiotherapists at Nambucca Heads will help you to be more comfortable with where our posture should be and show you ways of achieving improved posture.

The key to improving posture is not just adhering to proper posture but in increasing self-awareness of how to position our bodies.
